Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA)

Introduction

This Master of Landscape Architecture is offered, with the vision to produce professional graduates in the field of Landscape Architecture who are knowledgeable, competent, holistic, creative, respected, with forward-thinking mindset and sensitive to the environment. These characteristics are crucial in every Landscape Architecture graduates to ensure the sustainability of landscape development by focusing on environmental quality for human life and other beings.

In this multi-disciplinary environment, the Master of Landscape Architecture has gained considerable advantage over other higher educational institutions. USM’s School of Biological Science and Centre for Marine and Coastal Studies (CEMACS) provide additional inputs which further enhance the programme.

Why USM MLA?

  • It is a full-time Professional Master’s programme that centres on the advanced study of landscape Architecture.

  • USM MLA accepts candidates from different backgrounds, either design or non-design, related to Landscape Architecture and Built Environment fields.

  • Upon completion of MLA programme, graduates can become the Members of the Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM), and they could further proceed becoming a Profesional Landscape Architect.

Durations

  • Design background candidates: Min 2 years / Maximum 4 years
  • Non-design background candidates: Min 2.5 years / Maximum 5 years

The programme equips students with the knowledge and skills to advance their career at the managerial level, secure employment in specialized areas, either in private or public sectors and prepares them to persue their Ph.D degree.

Graduates are exposed to ample employment opportunities with any urban and environmental related government agencies, developers, design firms, contractor companies, educational institutions, commercial plant nurseries as well as self-employment.
