Introduction

The HOUSING, BUILDING AND PLANNING UNDERGRADUATE CONFERENCE (HBPUC2026) is a conference series dedicated to promoting the importance, significance, and advancement of sustainability and the built environment. It provides a platform for sharing new findings, approaches, awareness, and knowledge to keep participants informed of the latest issues in the industry. The conference features invited guest speakers, including distinguished international experts, who will deliver keynote lectures and exchange ideas on the most recent developments in the field.

This event aims to bring together young researchers, academics, students, and professional practitioners from relevant fields to present their latest research findings and practical insights. In addition, it provides a platform to discuss current issues and challenges faced by the industry at both local and international levels.

Categories and Sub-Themes

This event gathers young researchers, academics, students, and professional practitioners to present findings and discuss industry issues across local and international regions. The competition is divided into the following sub-themes:

Building Surveying

Drone & remote sensing in surveying, Development, by-laws, building control, pathology, defects, condition assessment, inspection, building performance, legal, POE.

Quantity Surveying

Cost planning, procurement systems, contract management, financial monitoring and control, project lifecycle, Building Information Modelling (BIM), risk management, efficient project delivery and improving accountability.

Architecture, Planning & Tourism

Design, planning, architectural studies, heritage, tourism, legal, housing, geospatial, BIM.

Property and Real Estate

Building maintenance, asset, legal, risk, project management, property management, contracts, legal, professional practice, QS.

Construction & Technology

Design, structure, construction, technology, risk, BIM, Building Information Modelling, Data mining, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, internet of things (IoT), Climate Change.

Environmental Science & Building Performance

Machine learning, Energy, simulation, Indoor Air Quality, Indoor Environmental Quality, FM.

Engineering & Material Science

Engineering studies, building engineering technology.

Submission and Guidelines

Abstract

Full Paper Submission

  • Use APA (7th Edition) for referencing style.
  • Upload your full paper in the HBPUC system before 28th August 2026.

Plagiarism Policy

  • Similarity index must not exceed 20% (excluding references).
  • All submissions will be checked using plagiarism detection software.
  • Papers with excessive similarity will be rejected without review.

Oral Category

  • Full paper submission is a MUST by 28 August 2026.
  • Presentation slides format: PowerPoint, Keynote, or equivalent.
  • Duration of presentation: 3 minutes (Recommended slides: Not more than 10).
  • Medium of language: English.
  • For the virtual category, oral presentations should be provided as a pre-recorded video.

Poster Category

  • Full paper submission is a MUST by 28 August 2026.
  • The poster must be exactly one (1) page. Additional pages will not be accepted.
  • Must include: title of research, name(s), affiliations, logo of affiliations (top-left corner), and USM sign-off (top-right corner).
  • Orientation: Portrait or landscape | Size: A1 (594mm x 841mm).
  • Recommended font sizes: Title > 72pt, Headings 30-60pt, Text 16-24pt.
  • For the virtual category, a softcopy must be submitted to the secretariat before the deadline.
