Pusat Pengajian Perumahan, Bangunan & Perancangan | School of Housing Building and Planning    USM Putih

BACHELOR OF BUILDING ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY WITH HONOURS

Programme Code : (US6582003)

The Building Engineering Technology programme in the School of Housing, Building and Planning, Universiti Sains Malaysia is a multi discipline programme incorporating the technical aspects of engineering and building services. The courses in the programme are similar to many basic civil engineering subjects in which students are exposed to construction and building services such as structure, building materials, land survey, building infrastructure, fire prevention and fire safety, air conditioning and mechanical ventilation, transportation in buildings as well as electrical and lighting systems.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO)

  • To produce practitioners who are competent in applying engineering knowledge and technical skills in Building Engineering Technology, while contributing to the design and development of sustainable and efficient built environment solutions.

  • To produce practitioners who are able to communicate effectively, collaborate and lead in multidisciplinary teams, and apply project management principles in delivering building engineering technology solutions that address societal, environmental, and industry needs.

  • To produce practitioners who uphold professional ethics, legal responsibilities, and social values in building engineering technology practice, while demonstrating commitment to lifelong learning and continuous professional development in response to emerging technologies and evolving industry needs.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES (PLO)
  1. Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science, computing, and engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to defined and applied appropriate engineering procedures, processes, systems, and methodologies in Building Engineering Technology.

  2.  Ability to identify, formulate, research literature and analyse broadly-defined building engineering technology problems reaching substantiated conclusions using analytical tools appropriate to the discipline or area of specialisation with considerations for sustainable development.

  3. Ability to design solutions for broadly-defined building engineering technology problems and contribute to the design of systems, components or processes to meet identified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, whole-life cost, net zero carbon as well as resource, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations as required.

  4. Ability to conduct investigations of broadly-defined building engineering technology problems; locate, search and select relevant data from codes, databases and literature, design and conduct experiments to provide valid conclusions.

  5. Ability to select and apply, and recognize limitations of appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modelling, to broadly-defined building engineering technology problems.

  6.  Ability to analyze and evaluate sustainable development impacts to: society, the economy, sustainability, health and safety, legal frameworks, and the environment, in solving broadly-defined building engineering technology problems.

  7. Ability to understand and commit to professional ethics and norms of building engineering technology practice and adhere to relevant national and international laws. Demonstrate an understanding of the need for diversity and inclusion.

  8. Ability to function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse and inclusive teams and in multi-disciplinary, face-to-face, remote and distributed settings in building engineering technology.

  9. Ability to communicate effectively and inclusively on broadly-defined building engineering technology activities with the engineering community and with society at large, by being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, taking into account cultural, language, and learning differences.

  10. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding of engineering management principles and economic decision-making to one's own work, as a member and leader in a team and to manage building engineering technology projects in multidisciplinary environments.

  11. Ability to recognize the need for, and have the ability for

    i) independent and life-long learning and

ii) critical thinking in the face of new specialist technologies in building engineering technology.
